Lessons from Nehemiah Chapter 8

We prayerfully suggest you Read it…

1.            Reverently  Recognise it as God’s Word

2.            Prayerfully  Ask God to reveal something new.

3.            Humbly      It must move our hearts.

4.            Personally   Imagine it is directed to you …

                   “Dear John/ Sally etc.”

5.            Thoughtfully     Allow time to take it in.

6.            Continually  Don’t just dip in occasionally.

7.            Obediently  If God’s Word is not obeyed

                    it is not understood.

8.            Joyfully     Read expectantly and you will

rediscover the joy of intimacy with God.

Further suggestions below to help with reading the Bible:
Step 1

Designate a time for your daily devotions: As I said in my introduction, everyone is not a morning person, so do not feel condemned if you can't get up at 4:00 AM to pray. The main thing is, to put aside some time to spend with the Lord. If you are rusty and have not had devotions for a while. Make a commitment of ten to fifteen minutes at first and increase your time gradually.

Step 2
Putting your foot down: If you find that your have been distracted for several days, and have not done your daily devotion, it will be up to you to put your food down and decide, that you are not going to do anything else, until you pray. Turn off the TV, shut down the computer turn off the phone ringer and take your time with the Lord.
Step 3
Have quiet place: Distraction is the greatest enemy to your daily devotions, so pick a time and place where you know you will not be disturbed. Let your family know that you will not be available for the next half hour or so, and do not disturb you.

Step 4
Designate a time: Everyone is not a morning person so do not feel condemned if you can't get up at 4:00 AM. The main thing when doing daily devotions, is to put aside time to spend with the Lord. If you are rusty and have not had bible devotions for a while. Make a commitment to fifteen minutes and increase your time gradually.

Step 5
Make your pray room your own: It is not necessary, but nice to have your bible devotions in a place prepared just for that. Decorate your prayer place with flowers, candles, floor pillows, anything that will create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

Step 6
Invite God in: Before you being your bible devotions, pray and ask the Lord to be with and bless your time with him. There is nothing like anointed worship music to usher in the Spirit of God! Spend a little time giving thanks to God for all His blessings.

Step 7
Read: Don't try to read the whole bible during your bible devotions. Pick out a particular passage or one scripture you like to read and meditate on. Ask yourself what the scripture means, and how it applies to your life. You can also use a bible study guide or a spiritual book to help in your devotions.

Step 8
Pray: Have a short list of things you want to pray about or pray for the things the Lord brings to your mind. Pray for each one until you feel a peace about it.
