God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14 v 6
(At the time I chose to give my life to the Lord this verse helped me to understand who Jesus was and how I could have a relationship with God through what he had done for me. I believe this is a simple verse which has great power. )

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew ch 5 vs 14-16
(I chose these verses because they encourage me to stand up for Jesus and let his light shine through in my life, especially now as I head back to college.) Young farmer, Church collections and Audio Visual operator
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5. (Favourite verse ... The fifty-third chapter of Isaiah, often referred to as the "Suffering servant" passage, was one of the first passages that I learnt at Sunday school. Verse 5 emphasises the fact Jesus suffered in my place. It reminds us that all that Jesus endured on the cross was because of our sin and to purchase our salvation.) Minister
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[a]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Luke 12 v 22-34 (I like this passage because it offers encouragement in that God is aware of our needs, and will provide for us. Also there is a lot of teaching to take out of this passage about our attitudes towards material goods and where our priories should be.)
